The United States and Iran exchanged fire in the Gulf on Monday, in an escalation that also included Tehran's attacks against the UAE, casting doubt on the fate of the four-week-old ceasefire, according to Bloomberg.
U.S. Central Command chief Brad Cooper told reporters on Monday that the U.S. military countered attacks by Iranian drones, missiles, and small armed boats while securing the passage of two U.S.-flagged ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
CBS reported that the destroyers USS Truxtun and USS Mason transited the strait, supported by Apache helicopters and other aircraft, and faced a series of coordinated threats during the transit.
President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social, "We shot down seven small boats, or as they like to call them, speedboats," adding that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth would hold a press conference on Tuesday.
