US Secretary of State Antony Blinken urged the protection of civilians, including minorities in Syria, following the opposition factions’ takeover of several cities.
State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller, as reported by Alhurra, stated that during a phone call with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Blinken emphasized the need for a political resolution to the conflict in line with the United Nations Security Council resolution.
In a related context, another State Department spokesperson told the channel that the U.S. is closely monitoring the situation on the ground in Syria. He added that the United States, in collaboration with its partners and allies, continues to advocate for the protection of civilians, including minority groups.
The spokesperson, who requested anonymity, further stated that “now is the time to negotiate an end to the Syrian conflict in accordance with the principles outlined in UN Security Council Resolution 2254.”
