U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian on Monday.
During their phone call, they underlined the special role of the transatlantic alliance in facing global security challenges, State department spokesman Ned Price said in statement.
They also discussed a number of pressing international issues and files related to Iran, Russia, China and the political process in Libya.
The statement added that Blinken and Le Drian also tackled the peace and stability in the eastern Mediterranean.
