U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken held a phone conversation today, Thursday, with his French counterpart, Jean-Noël Barrot, during which they discussed the latest developments in Syria and ways to help the Syrian people seize the opportunity to build a better future while mitigating the risks of increasing instability.
They also emphasized the necessity of a comprehensive Syrian-led transition process.
According to an official statement from the U.S. Department of State, both sides stressed the need for all groups in Syria to respect human rights, uphold international humanitarian law, and take all necessary precautions to protect civilians, including minorities.
The two ministers also called for international support to locate the missing and detained, including American journalist Austin Tice.
Blinken praised France's leadership in supporting Lebanon, including its continued assistance to the Lebanese Armed Forces.
He underscored the importance of a coordinated approach to help the Lebanese people rebuild their institutions and regain leadership through the presidential elections.
