US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said he was not "overly optimistic" about the possibility of reaching an agreement that would revive the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran.
He added that he would simply say that he is not overly optimistic about the prospects of actually reaching a deal," Blinken told NBC, a US news network.
He declined to go into detail about what was blocking the deal but gave an unexpectedly pessimistic view of the talks.
It is worth noting that Iran seeks to reach an agreement with the five permanent members of the United Nations (UN) Security Council as well as Germany, to lift harsh sanctions for stopping efforts to possess a nuclear weapon.
