A powerful explosion was reported late Saturday near the United States Embassy in Oslo, Norwegian police said, adding that no injuries were immediately reported.
The blast struck the entrance of the consular section of the embassy in Oslo, according to police operations commander Michael Dælimyr.
Dælimyr told public broadcaster NRK that the damage appeared to be minor. He declined to provide further details about the nature of the explosion, saying the investigation had only just begun.
Police quickly deployed a large security presence around the embassy as authorities began examining the scene.
The incident comes at a time when US diplomatic missions in the Middle East have been placed on high alert amid the ongoing conflict involving Iran, with several facilities targeted in recent attacks.
However, Norwegian police said there is currently no indication that the explosion near the US embassy in Oslo is linked to the Middle East conflict.
Dælimyr told broadcaster TV 2 that it was far too early to draw any connection between the incident and the war in the region as investigators continue their inquiries.
