US President Joe Biden embarked on an unprecedented visit to Amazon, becoming the first sitting American president to travel to the region.

The visit highlights his administration's commitment to environmental conservation and combating climate change amid growing uncertainties surrounding future US climate policies.

Biden arrived in Manaus, Brazil, at the heart of the world’s largest tropical rainforest. This trip, part of his South American tour, is expected to be one of his final major international engagements before the conclusion of his term.

During his visit, Biden is set to survey the Amazon from above, explore a museum showcasing regional biodiversity, and engage with local stakeholders, including indigenous representatives and conservation officials.

These meetings aim to bolster efforts to protect the rainforest, a crucial component in regulating the Earth's climate.

The visit carries significant weight as it takes place at a time when global concerns are mounting about a potential shift in US environmental policy.

With the possibility of Donald Trump returning to office in January, many are questioning whether the United States will maintain its commitments to climate action.

Under Trump’s previous administration, the US withdrew from the Paris Agreement on climate change, and he has signaled an intention to repeat this course of action if reelected.

As the second-largest emitter of greenhouse gases after China, the United States plays a pivotal role in global climate initiatives.
