U.S. President Joe Biden will hold his first meeting with Colombian leader Gustavo Petro in Washington on 20 April.
Biden and Petro will touch upon ways to deepen the solid bilateral, the White House said in a statement.
The Biden administration highlighted that Colombia is a key partner of the US, adding that the two leaders will discuss how both nations can boost areas of mutual national interest, including promoting greater economy, security, and cooperation.
The American president will receive Petro on Thursday to discuss key issues involving Colombia including climate change, drug trafficking, and migration, according to the White House.
During the last visit to Colombia, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken affirmed that the US and Colombia will continue to team up on a holistic approach to counternarcotics through efforts on comprehensive rural security, justice, and development; environmental protection; and integrated drug supply reduction.
