US President Joe Biden signed a bill Thursday that would ban imports from China's Xinjiang region due to forced labor concerns, according to the White House.

The bill passed by Congress this month after lawmakers reached a compromise between House and Senate versions.

The Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act is part of the US respond to Beijing's treatment of the China's Uyghur Muslim minority.

The Chinese government has set up detention camps for Uyghurs and other Muslim minorities in the region.

China denies abuses in Xinjiang, which supplies the world with a large amount of material for solar panels, but the US government and many rights groups say Beijing is carrying out a "genocide" there.
