Joe Biden, US President-elect said on Friday that the U.S. jobs report for November highlighted the urgent need for a relief package, especially in January.

Biden pointed out, "This is a grim jobs report. It shows an economy that is stalling,” he said, adding he was encouraged by Senate efforts on a $900 billion relief package.

He added, “Congress and President Trump must get a deal done for the American people. But any package passed in the lame duck session is not enough. we will need to act again in January.”

In November, the US economy added the lowest number of workers in six months due to the emergence if the second wave of the corona pandemic, threatening to reverse any recovery efforts.

The employment report issued by the Labor Department showed that around 3.9 million Americans have giving up on work for at least six months, indicating a lack of confidence in the labor market.

Earlier this year, more than $3 trillion were approved in government relief, helping millions of unemployed, and leading to record economic growth in Q3 of 2020.

The unemployment rate fell to 6.7% in Nov. from 6.9% in October, due to 400,000 employees dropped out of workforce.

Meantime, up to 213,830 new cases of COVID-19 and 2,861 deaths were reported in the United States on Thursday.
