U.S. President Joe Biden on Sunday hailed the COP29 agreement as a "significant step" in combating global warming, reaffirming his country's commitment to addressing climate change.
In a statement reported by Al-Hurra TV, Biden said, “Some may seek to deny or delay the clean energy revolution happening in America and around the world, but no one can reverse this course.”
The nations gathered in Baku on Sunday agreed on a landmark deal to provide at least $300 billion annually to developing countries to tackle climate change. This agreement comes after two weeks of intense negotiations at the COP29 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Azerbaijan.
The new funding target is set to replace the previous pledge by developed nations to deliver $100 billion annually to poorer countries by 2020. That goal, achieved in 2022—two years past its deadline—will expire in 2025.
