On Friday, US President-elect Joe Biden announced that he intends to reduce the size of his inaugural crowds for safety during the Coronavirus pandemic, according to Reuters.

In press statements, Biden said that he is likely to be sworn in next January 20 on the podium, which has already been built on the steps of the Congress building, yet he wants to avoid the crowds, who usually gather to watch the party and parade.

"There probably will not be a huge inaugural parade on Pennsylvania Avenue. But I think you'll see a lot of virtual activity in states across the US, with more people participating than before," he added.

Earlier, Biden said that his staff is working with the same team that arranged the online Democratic National Convention in August to plan a swearing-in ceremony that does not raise the risks of accelerating the spread of COVID-19, which has risen to a new record in the US.

It is worth mentioning that, in sharp contrast, in 2107, Trump’s administration began with then-spokesman Sean Spicer attacking the news media for publishing photos that showed far smaller crowds than had gathered for President Barack Obama’s historic inauguration as the nation’s first Black president eight years earlier.
