The Biden administration is set to expedite a final $6 billion security aid package to Ukraine before President-elect Donald Trump assumes office, according to sources within the White House.

The plan, reported by Politico on Wednesday and based on information from two senior officials, aims to secure the delivery of crucial military support to Ukraine, assisting its ongoing defense against Russian aggression.

The White House’s strategy involves fast-tracking this aid package, as it may be the last available opportunity for the current administration to send critical military equipment to Ukraine.

Officials describe this move as essential for maintaining Ukraine's defenses, particularly as the political transition could impact future support for the nation.

This "last-minute" package will include air defense systems and armored vehicles, adding to the $425 million military assistance package recently announced by President Joe Biden.

That previous installment, detailed by the White House, was designed to bolster Ukraine’s defenses in the face of Russia’s sustained attacks.

Biden’s administration continues to emphasize its commitment to Ukraine's security as it prepares for an impending shift in U.S. leadership.
