US President Joe Biden said during a press conference with South Korean President Moon Jae-in on Friday that there has been no shift in the Democrat's commitment to the security of Israel, reiterating the party's long-standing support for the two-state solution between Israelis and the Palestinians.
Biden added "my party continues to support Israel. Let's understand something: Until the region unequivocally says it recognizes Israel's right to exist as an independent Jewish state, there will be no peace."
"I made it clear when I spoke with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas: We will make sure that we will provide security in the West Bank. We renewed the security commitment, as well as the economic commitment towards the residents of the West Bank."
He said he was committed to assembling a package with other countries interested in rebuilding Gaza without allowing Hamas to rebuild its weapons systems.
Biden added, "I also indicated to the Israelis that I think it is extremely important that they stop this inter-communal fighting in Jerusalem with extremists on both sides. It must end." "I was praying for the continuation of the current ceasefire between Israel and Hamas."
Moon welcomed the ceasefire, saying, "I appreciate Biden's hard work in this regard."
