“US President Joe Biden will keep all options on the table while considering a response to Russia’s detention of opposition leader Alexei Navalny, press secretary Jen Psaki said on Monday.
Police arrested more than 3,700 people and used force to disperse crowds across Russia on Saturday, while tens of thousands of protesters ignored the bitter cold weather and police warnings, demanding Navalny's release.
Noteworthy, the US State Department strongly condemned what it called "the strong suppression of protests" in several Russian regions, as supporters of jailed opposition leader Alexei Navalny took to streets demanding his release. The US urged Moscow to release all detainees.
"The United States strongly condemns the strong suppression of protests in support of jailed opposition leader Alexei Navalny, throughout Russia " the State Department said in a statement on Saturday.
Unauthorized marches were organized in dozens of Russian cities on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Russian Foreign Ministry warned against foreign interference.
Moscow also has condemned the US embassy’s step to publish maps of the protests, pointing out that US diplomats will be called over this step.
