On Saturday, US President Joe Biden awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom with distinction to the Vatican's Pope Francis II.
This honor came days before Biden's departure from the White House.
Biden, who is only the second Catholic president in US history, had a phone call with the Pope on Saturday to tell him about winning the highest US civilian honor.
In addition, the White House shared a photo of Biden in the Oval Office alongside the medal.The White House described the Pope as “the People’s Pope – a light of faith, hope, and love that shines brightly across the world.”
The US President was expected to head to Rome this weekend but the trip was canceled due to the Los Angeles wildfires.
