President Joe Biden said Thursday that the American people are "really, really disappointed" after two turbulent years with the coronavirus pandemic, volatility in the economy and now soaring gasoline prices slamming family budgets, according to the Associated Press.
The president said a recession is not inevitable and was angry at Republican lawmakers' claims that last year's COVID-19 aid plan was entirely responsible for driving inflation to a 40-year high, calling the argument "weird."
As for the general American mentality, Biden said, "People are really frustrated."
“They are really really down,” he said. "The need for mental health has risen in America because, people have seen everything as depressing. Everything has been reckoned with distress. Most of it is a result of what happened, and what happened as a result of the COVID crisis.”
Biden addressed economists' warnings that the United States could be headed into a recession.
