All passenger flights at Berlin Brandenburg Airport will be suspended on Wednesday as workers stage a strike, causing major disruption to air travel in Germany’s capital.
Airport authorities confirmed that operations for passengers will be halted during the strike action, part of a broader wave of labor protests affecting public transportation across several regions of Germany this week.
The industrial action comes amid growing labor tensions in the country’s transport sector, with unions calling for improved working conditions and pay adjustments.
In parallel political developments, Germany’s ruling parties, the center-right Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the center-left Social Democratic Party (SPD), remain the dominant political forces following municipal elections in the state of Hesse.
Partial results indicate that the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) finished in third place after gaining less support than many analysts had predicted.
Meanwhile, German government officials have also signaled a lack of interest in joining calls by US President Donald Trump to deploy naval forces to secure shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, reflecting Berlin’s cautious stance toward deeper military involvement in the Middle East.
