Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir described the demolition of UNRWA offices in Jerusalem as “an important day for imposing Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem,” according to Al Qahera News.
Ben-Gvir’s remarks came amid growing international criticism of Israeli actions targeting United Nations agencies operating in Palestinian territories, particularly the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
The demolition has raised concerns among international organizations, which warn that restricting UNRWA’s presence could worsen humanitarian conditions for Palestinian refugees and undermine essential services.
The move is expected to further inflame tensions in Jerusalem, as the city remains a core issue in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and a focal point of diplomatic and political disputes.
