The Israeli army announced early Sunday that its air defenses intercepted a missile launched from Yemen, prompting authorities to temporarily close the airspace over Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv.
In a statement, the army said, “Following the activation of sirens in several areas across Israel, the Israeli Air Force intercepted a missile fired from Yemen.”
According to Israel’s Channel 12, Ben Gurion International Airport was closed to air traffic after the launch as a precautionary measure.
No casualties or material damage were reported as of Sunday morning, while the Houthi group in Yemen has not yet commented on the incident.
The missile launch marks another escalation amid regional tensions, with Yemen’s Houthi movement previously claiming responsibility for several long-range attacks targeting Israel since the start of the Gaza war.
