Belgium’s PM Inaugurates Exhibition of cartoons from Egypt

The European Cartoon Center in the Belgian city of Kruishoutem is hosting the first caricature exhibition of its kind, titled "Cartoons from Egypt", in which Belgian Prime Minister Alexandre De Croo participates.

The inauguration was witnessed by a group of the most important cartoonists in Egypt, in the presence of Rudy Jessens, the President of the European Caricature Centre, Saskia Jessens, the Director of the Murr, Ludo Rochette, the former Belgian Deputy Ambassador to Egypt, artist Fawzi Morsi, the founder of Egypt Cartoon Blog, Ibrahim Abla, the Director of the Caricature Museum in Fayoum, as well as a group of the most important caricature artists in Belgium and the world, and a group of people interested in the art of caricature.

The exhibition deals with many social issues in a satirical manner such as climate change, peace, women, and it includes a collection of rare caricatures of the most important and famous pioneers and illustrators of the Egyptian art of caricature.

It also includes a group of caricatured portraits of celebrities of art and culture in Egypt and the world, such as the international Egyptian writer Naguib Mahfouz, the Egyptian football player Mohamed Salah, Mahatma Gandhi, Marquis, Charlie Chaplin, and others.

The exhibition is organized by the European Caricature Center in Belgium and the Caricature Museum in Fayoum under the umbrella of the Fayoum Art Center, and the Egypt Cartoon platform. It is supervised by Morsi Abla.

It is held as part of the opening activities of the international cartoon exhibition "Euro Cartwinali" in its 24th edition, where Egypt was chosen to be the guest of honor this year.

It is an important opportunity for the Belgian public to view a unique collection of the pioneers and knights of caricature art in Egypt, as well as the works of distinguished contemporary artists.

The exhibition includes more than 80 works of art, and a group of the most important cartoonists in Egypt participate in it. Their names in Arabic alphabetical order: Alexander Sarokhan, Ahmed Toghan, Ahmed Hegazy, Ahmed Geisah, Ahmed Khallaf, Adham Lutfi, Arkan Al-Zaidi, Tharwat Mortada, Juma Farhat, George Al-Bahjouri, Hassan Hakim, Hassan Farouk, Khaled Al-Marsafi, Khader Hassan, Juan Santis, Rita Kevorkian, Zuhdi Al-Adawi Saeed Badawi, Samir Abdel Ghani, Sherif Arafa, Abdel Aziz Taj, Ghada Mostafa, Farouk Mousa, Fawzi Morsi, Mohamed Effat, Marwa Ibrahim, Mustafa El Sheikh, Mustafa Hussein, Nora Makram, Hani Abdel Gawad, Hadeer Yahya, and Yasser Geisah.

The exhibition will run until June 18, 2023, at the European Cartoon Center in Croixouthem, Belgium.
