Health authorities in Belgium agreed today, Monday, to start vaccinating children between the ages of 5 and 11 against the Coronavirus.
The authorities said the vaccination is strongly recommended for children with conditions that make them more vulnerable to complications from the Coronavirus ( known also as COVID-19).
The children will be invited to receive their vaccinations as a priority before the end of this month.
Last month, EU lawmakers approved a reduced dose of the Pfizer-Biontech vaccine for use in the 5-11 age group.
The Belgian government has tightened rules in schools and nurseries, introducing school holidays and asking children from 6 years of age and older to wear masks, to cope with a new rise in the number of cases of the virus, which has already claimed 27,900 lives in the country.
Yesterday, thousands of people participated in an anti-health demonstration in the framework of Corona restrictions in the Belgian capital, Brussels, where the police arrested some protesters during the clashes that followed the demonstration.
The demonstrators, who numbered 3,500, according to the police, and 50,000, according to the organizers, marched in a demonstration between Gare du Nord and the European Quarter, in protest against the imposition of the use of a health certificate to enter restaurants and cultural events.
Clashes occurred as the march was dispersed when a group of demonstrators began throwing stones and other projectiles at the police.
And the authorities harnessed great potentials to ensure the protection of the European neighborhood, with European Council President Charles Michel receiving many African leaders on Sunday to prepare for the summit of the European and African Unions scheduled for February 2022 in Brussels.
And AFP reported that riot police dispersed the protesters, while plainclothes police arrested some of them.
The Belgian group "Uniting for Freedom" that organized the demonstration is calling for a "discussion on how to fight the virus".
Belgium records about 10,000 Covid cases daily, according to health authorities.
