Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced on Thursday that Belarus has officially joined the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) as its 10th member.

This development was confirmed after the signing of the necessary documents.

Tokayev extended his congratulations to Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on the nation's new status within the SCO.

The announcement was made during the SCO summit, which commenced in the Kazakh capital.

With Belarus's inclusion, the SCO now comprises 10 full-fledged members. In addition, the organization includes two observer states and 14 dialogue partners, reflecting its growing influence and expanding international reach.

The summit marks a significant moment for Belarus as it enhances its geopolitical partnerships and participates more actively in regional cooperation and security initiatives.
