Fatal rains that hit Beijing in the latest few days were the heaviest in 140 years, the Chinese capital weather service announced on Wednesday.

The news was reported after a massive cleanup operation started in the streets of Beijing.

The bad weather waves hit millions of people as they were impacted by the latest heat waves in the world.

The Beijing Meteorological Service said that the city witnessed the "heaviest rainfall in 140 years."

It added: "The maximum (amount) of rainfall recorded during this storm, which was 744.8 millimetres, occurred at the Wangjiayuan Reservoir in Changping."

At least 11 people died and dozens of people are still missing in the latest rains in Beijing, CCTV said Tuesday.
