China accused the US of using subsidies to prop up national industries and refusing to abide by the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

In a speech, China's ambassador to the WTO Li Chenggang affirmed that was disappointed in the US trading record, noting that it had not lived up to President Joe Biden's inaugural pledge to lead "by the power of our example."

"The US puts 'America First' by prevailing its domestic laws over international rules and (the) laws of others, disregarding WTO rules and concerns of other members," he stated at the Geneva-based WTO.

He added: "Clearly, the United States is a destroyer of the multilateral trading system."

Earlier, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin mentioned that the US is pursuing a policy of economic coercion and targets the scientific and technological sectors of other states.

"The US has repeatedly generalized the national security concept, abused export control measures, used discriminatory and unfair methods against foreign companies, as well as politicized and militarized technological issues," Wang said.

Wang stressed: "This is nothing but flat-out economic coercion and technological persecution.”

The diplomat highlighted that Washington’s stance inflicts major damage to trade and economic exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and US firms, threatening the stability of global production chains.
