CAIRO, March 11 (SEE) - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi directed Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly and newly-appointed Minister of Transportation Kamel El-Wazir to exert their best efforts to develop the railway system, according to Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Rady.

Rady asserted in a statement released Monday that Sisi is keen on upgrading the railway institution inclusively as it affects normal citizens' daily lives.

"The president convened a meeting with Madbouly and Wazir and tackled necessary procedures required to boost safety standards of the railway system," Rady added.

A few hours before the meeting, Wazir swore the oath as the new minister of transportation before President Sisi at Ettahadiya Palace, eastern Cairo.

On Sunday, Sisi promoted Wazir to Lieutenant General from Major General during the celebration held on the occasion of ‘Martyr Day’ marking March 9.

“I thank God for his generosity and blessings embodied in good health, good living conditions, and success. I thank my brother, friend, leader, and instructor President Sisi for his backing and support. I will say a lot about that great man in my diaries by the end of my service,” Wazir said after the promotion.

The House of Representatives members approved in Sunday's plenary session the nomination of Wazir as Minister of Transportation to succeed Hesham Arafat who resigned in the aftermath of Cairo Railway Station blaze.

Abdel-Aal, Parliament speaker, said that Sisi sent a letter to parliament which "included a CV stating that Wazir is a distinguished military officer who led the army's Engineering Authority and took charge of implementing many national mega projects."

"Wazir is well-known to all Egyptians as a man of great achievement, not to mention that he received many medals in appreciation for the great roles he played in implementing national projects," elaborated Abdel-Aal.
