Spanish media reports indicate that Barcelona has decided to keep young Egyptian striker Hamza Abdelkarim in the first team for the entire upcoming season, following his impressive performances with the Egyptian national team at the 2026 World Cup.
According to the newspaper "SPORT," the Catalan club's decision is no longer limited to the player's participation in preseason training. He is now part of manager Hansi Flick's plans for the entire season, after the player's outstanding performances at the World Cup.
Barcelona had previously activated Abdelkarim's contract, extending it until June 20, 2029, after his successful loan spell with the club during the second half of last season.
The 18-year-old participated in four matches for Egypt at the 2026 World Cup, having earned the trust of manager Hossam Hassan, who included him in all of the Pharaohs' matches except for the Round of 16 clash against Argentina, giving him approximately 14 minutes in each game.
The newspaper confirmed that Barcelona officials had expected the player to receive limited playing time with the Egyptian national team. However, his frequent appearances in the tournament reinforced the management's conviction that he possesses significant potential, qualifying him to compete with the first team.
The report added that club officials believe the player still needs to develop, but they are confident in his ability to contribute, especially given the team's need for a reliable striker who can serve as a backup option throughout the season.
SPORT clarified that Hamza Abdel Karim will not be part of Barcelona Athletic's project, but will instead be integrated into the first team, as the coaching staff believes he has the qualities to gradually earn opportunities with the senior squad.
