Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, the Bahraini Minister of Foreign Affairs, emphasized that what began as Iranian threats to vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz has evolved into a global menace.
Moreover, he stressed that time has become a critical factor in addressing this escalating crisis, which now poses a direct threat to international stability, food security, and the principles of international law.
Bahraini FM also revealed that since February 28, oil tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has plunged by more than 90%.
He explained that the repercussions are no longer confined to energy markets or shipping lanes but extend to global food security, with an expected surge in fertilizer shortages and heightened risks of famine.
Furthermore, Al Zayani pointed to United Nations warnings that 45 million additional people could face acute hunger, and nearly 4 million people in the Arab world could be pushed into poverty if the current situation persists.
