Bahrain has officially entered the space age with the successful launch of its first satellite, “Al Munther”, from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, USA.
Marking a historic achievement, “Al Munther” is the first satellite to be fully designed and developed in Bahrain. The project aims to localize satellite technologies and enhance the kingdom's capabilities in the space industry.
The satellite is also the first of its kind in the region to utilize artificial intelligence (AI) technology for real-time image analysis while in orbit.
Before launch, “Al Munther” underwent a series of rigorous tests to ensure its ability to withstand the harsh environment of space and operate efficiently after deployment. These tests were conducted in specialized facilities both regionally and internationally.
The satellite was launched aboard a Falcon 9 rocket, developed by SpaceX, from the Vandenberg base.
Bahraini space engineer and Satellite Safety and Integration Officer, Yousef Al Qattan, expressed pride in the achievement, stating that the team successfully overcame the challenges of developing the satellite through precise system testing to ensure a smooth launch and successful operation.
The launch of “Al Munther” is seen as a major step in Bahrain's journey towards establishing a strong presence in the global space industry.
