Bahrain has imposed a nighttime ban on maritime activity for fishermen and recreational boat users as security risks escalate across the region, authorities announced.

The restriction, issued by Bahrain’s Interior Ministry, is in effect daily from 6:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. local time until further notice. The move is aimed at protecting coastal areas and ensuring public safety amid ongoing security concerns.

Officials said the decision follows recent attacks involving missiles and drones, which pose serious risks to both citizens and residents. The ministry urged all sea-goers to comply with the restrictions, avoid approaching coastal areas during the ban, and adhere to safety guidelines to prevent legal consequences.

The measures come as part of broader efforts to enhance maritime security readiness in response to rapidly escalating regional tensions.

The decision coincides with a sharp rise in hostilities across the Middle East, as conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran continues to intensify, expanding into key maritime zones including the Gulf and the Red Sea.

In recent weeks, Iran has increased missile and drone activity targeting Gulf countries, prompting heightened security alerts across the region amid fears of potential strikes on civilian infrastructure.

The situation has also disrupted global shipping routes, particularly following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint through which roughly 20% of the world’s oil and gas supplies pass.

Additional threats from Yemen’s Houthi group to target the Bab al-Mandeb Strait have further raised concerns over global trade flows and supply chains.
