Bahia Hospital for early checkups and cancer treatment in cooperation with Smart Vision Company, honored 30 of the most successful Egyptian women in all fields in support of the noble cause of fighting cancer as part of the events of Egyptian Women's Forum.
The guests shared their success stories and the obstacles they had to overcome to reach where they are now.
Mohamed Nazmi, President of Smart Vision, Tamer Shawky, Chairman of Bahia Hospital, and Eng. Maged Hamdi, a member of Bahia's Board of Directors, presented the successful Egyptian ladies with shields carrying the Lotus Symbols, in the belief that Bahia should support all Egyptian women.
Among the women honored in the forum were iconic actress Lobna Abdul Aziz, Anisa Hassouna writer, researcher, Parliament representative Dr. Naglaa Nazhi, Advisor to the Governor of the Central Bank for African Affairs, Mrs. Mervat Sultan, Chairman of the Export Development Bank of Egypt, Dr. Nevin Gamea, Chief Executive Officer of the SMEs Authority, Dr. Sahar El Damaty, Managing Director of Heliopolis Company for Housing and Development, Captain Magda Malek, Captain of EgyptAir's first female flight captain, Dalia Saadani, President of the International Foundation for Design in Italy and media person Iman Riad and media person Jasmine Taha and a number of other women who are currently enjoying success in countless areas including finance, business and society.
Shawky opened up the forum honoring the women who died in their fight for cancer, while giving the history of how Bahia hospital came to be.
The hospital was name after cancer patient Bahia Wahby, who's family discovered that a lot of the less fortunate citizens weren't able to support the costs of cancer treatment so they decided to turn her old home into a cancer hospital without any financial earning.
He revealed that at the end of the year Bahia will have about 100,000 patients, whether in the form of checkups or actual treatments, and they plan on doubling this number the next year.
Passant Fouad, head of the public relations sector at Juhayna, assured that Egyptian women can succeed in every area if the society is able to provide enough support for them.
Women in Egyptian have a hard task in combining between their parental and house duties and their jobs, so the society need to support them in the utmost ways in order to produce a healthy and efficient community, she concluded.
The forum was pided into 4 mini forums in which the the guests where pided into groups and where able to cite their success stories and answer questions about their upbringings, hardships and biggest triumphs.
A few of the Successful Women Who took Part in the Forum:
Dr. Annissa Hassouna
Hassouna is a current representative at the Egyptian Parliament. She is a successful writer, researcher and very influential and was part of the most successful women listed under Arabian business magazine. She credits her upbringing and father to the success she is currently enjoying.
Throughout the events of the forum, Hassouna called for the importance of assigning part of a person's health insurance for free cancer checkups, even if that amounts to once per year. She also encouraged all donors to assign part of their donations to female critical illnesses.
Finally she stressed on Bahia's importance in supporting the Egyptian female, assuring that the hospital presents a very successful and inspirational model.
She believes that women were created to endure more pain than men, giving the example of child birth and assuring that females are the building blocks of our society.
Dr. Naglaa El-Nozahy:
El-Nozahy is the current advisor to the president of the central bank for African Relations. She believes that your upbringing has a huge role in shaping who you are and what you become, but assures that if your upbringing is negative, you must not let it stop you from achieving your dreams.
She reveals that she is not an AUC graduate like most on this forum, and that she had to deal with several hardships growing up, such as leaving her private school because her father, a police officer who had to transfer to Upper Egypt.
Mrs. Niven Nafea:
She is the chairman of export development bank and one of the leading figures in the field of economics in Egypt. Nafea is a former cancer patient and with enough sheer and determination she was able to beat the disease.
Nafea believes that after people get diagnosed with cancer they think this is the end of the world, but on the contrary they must fight in order to overcome the health obstacle and accomplish what they aimed for.
She said the part of the reasons she was able to beat cancer was that she treated it like a normal disease, revealing that she decided not to get treatment abroad in order to avoid causing her family and loved ones any pain.
Dr. Sahar El-Damaty:
El-Damaty is the managing director of Helioplis. Co for housing and development. She revealed that she doesn't have a Ph.D, but conducted two masters degrees and has 35 years of working experience.
El- Damaty cited that she faced many hardships in her life as she went to the United States to continue her educational journey and revealed she worked under harsh conditions there and was even forced to drive a lorry from New York to Washington at one time. She also revealed that she was forced to ride a motor cycle to transfer some very important paper work related to her job.
Mayan Wassel:
Wassel is the executive vice president of Speedo Trans, one of Egypt's leading energy and transport companies. She believes that all women have roles in our community whether they are part of the workforce or house wives.
She conducted her PhD in the Cairo University about the hardships women would face in their journey. She cited that some institutions fear depending on women in leading positions because of her constant family responsibilities and child birth.
She revealed, during the forum, that she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006, which she overcame but then had to deal with hepatitis C. Wassel assured that her family was her main support system during that time and gave her hope in order to overcome all obstacles in front of her.
Eng. Dalia El-Saadany:
El-Saadany is the president of the international foundation for designs in Italy (IAD). Unlike many speakers on the forum, she stated that her field chose her and not the other way around.
She started her education years at Cheufat school in Abu Dhabi, her father was an engineer who she looked up to. She met an architecture professor just before she entered college and he encouraged her to pursue a career in architecture engineering.
El-Saadany graduated from architecture engineering college in Alexandria university in the 90's and from then on she began her career. She had a successful career in Italy , but chose to return home because her parents lived in Egypt.
She is a firm believer that women are the building blocks of society and that females could prove very successful in leading roles, as Egyptians were the first to assign female leaders since the Pharaohs.
Captain Magda Malak
Malak is the first Egyptian female pilot to be assigned in Egypt Air. She states that he inspiration to become a pilot came ever since her childhood days in which she dreamed of one day flying a plane.
She revealed that an Egyptian woman was the second person to fly a plane in the 30's. When asked about the reaction of the flight cabinet when they knew they had a female leader leading the aviation journey she stated, at first they were surprised then over the days they got used to it.
Nermine Shehab
She is the head of the marketing and strategic developments in El-Ahly Bank, she believed that women could easily get into leadership positions and overcome all obstacles ahead of them without the need of society support.
She expressed her admiration to the forum stressing that it will encourage Egyptian women to seek their dreams in the future, in addition she expressed her content with Bahia thanking the entity for supporting women throughout Egypt.
Naglaa Nosseir
Nosseir is the head of the society responsibilities sector in Masria Lel- Etisalat and one of the leading figures in WE. She cites that her father a former special forces army officer is her biggest inspiration and even though he wasn't present most of her life due to the harsh conditions of his job, he inspired her to be a better version of herself and to always fight to achieve her goals.
