German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock expressed her firm belief that "Germany has no greater interest than supporting Ukraine."
Baerbock made these remarks during an event organized by the Federal Academy for Security Policy (BAKS) in Germany, marking the anniversary of the country's first-ever national security strategy. She shared that she felt "confused" by discussions framing support for Ukraine as a charitable act. Baerbock argued that she does not understand "the logic of people who want to live in safety but are unwilling to spend money to ensure it."
She emphasized, "The challenge facing policymakers is not to act as if nothing has happened but to constantly make it clear that safety is not something we can take for granted; we must invest in it."
Germany is the second-largest supplier of weapons to Ukraine after the United States, having allocated and committed to military support worth approximately 28 billion euros. Russian authorities have repeatedly stated that supplying weapons to Ukraine will not deter Russia's resolve or alter the course of its special military operation in Ukraine.
