Axios, a US news website, reported that the arrival of ships to the port of Eilat in southern Israel has almost completely stopped, due to Houthi fighters in Yemen attacks on the Red Sea.

The website quoted American officials as saying that the administration of President Joe Biden sent messages to the Houthis through several channels warning them against continuing to launch attacks on ships in the Red Sea and against Israel.

The website reported that the US envoy to Yemen, Tim Lenderking, asked diplomats from the Sultanate of Oman and Qatar to convey warning messages to the Houthis, during a recent visit to the region.

Israeli and American officials said that the United States is expected to announce the formation of a multinational force in the Red Sea, to deter the Houthis from launching further attacks.

The website also quoted a senior Israeli official as saying that the Israeli War Cabinet has decided not to launch military action against the Houthis at the present time, so as not to distract the army’s attention from the war in Gaza, and to avoid the expansion of the conflict in the region.
