The American news site Axios said that US President Joe Biden, in a call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, expressed his concern about a possible Israeli military operation in the southern Gaza Strip after the end of the current truce.
The website added, quoting American officials, that Biden informed Netanyahu in the call that took place on Sunday that the way Israel operated in northern Gaza could not be repeated in the south, given the accumulation of nearly two million Palestinians there. Biden stressed that such an operation would lead to the fall of much larger numbers of Palestinians as more deaths and injuries of civilians exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in the Strip.
The US President told the Israeli prime minister that he wanted to have further discussions with Israel about the army's plans in southern Gaza before any potential operation, which Netanyahu agreed to.
