Disney announced Saturday that James Cameron’s "Avatar" once again become the highest-grossing film of all time at the global box office, overtaking "Avengers: Endgame", which claimed the top spot with its $2.7902 billion revenues in 2019.
The movie once again became the most lucrative movie of all time after the re-release of the movie in China on Friday.
It was directed, written, produced and co-edited by Cameron in 2009. The production was first developed in 1994 when Cameron wrote an 80-page treatment for the movie.
Marvel Studios also congratulated Cameron, Jon Landau and Avatar in a tweet, writing, "Congratulations to @JimCameron, @JonLandau and ALL of Na'vi Nation for reclaiming the box office crown! We love you 3000."
On the other hand, Disney has scheduled the second installment of the movie, which was originally set to be released in 2014, to be released on Dec. 16, 2022.
Moreover, the movie's third part is set for Dec. 20, 2024, the fourth part on Dec. 18, 2026 and the fifth for Dec. 22, 2028.
