Avalanches in Tajikistan Leave 10 People Dead

At least 10 people were killed in avalanches in Tajikistan's eastern Gorno-Badakhshan region after heavy snowfall in the area, authorities announced on Wednesday.

In the center of #Badakhshan (#Tajikistan) today, at about 10 am, an avalanche descended on several houses. Several people remained under the descended mass of snow.

The emergencies committee pointed out that one avalanche destroyed several buildings in the provincial capital Khorog, killing eight people.

Another one hit the town of Vanj, killing one person; while the third casualty was reported on a highway between the capital of Dushanbe and the city of Varzob.
