Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer stated that he had harsh and open talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Austrian Press Agency reported Monday.
"This was not a friendly visit," Nehammer noted. "My most important message to Putin was that this war must finally end because there are losers on both sides of a war."
The Chancellor stressed that the people involved in "serious war crimes in [Ukraine’s] Buchan ad other places" must be brought to responsibility.
"I also made it perfectly clear for Putin that the sanctions against Russia will remain and will become harsher for as long as people continue dying in Ukraine," he added.
Nehammer has become the first EU leader to meet with Putin in Moscow after the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Putin made his first public appearance while attending the funeral of the leading Russian politician Vladimir Zhirinovsky in Moscow.
Putin joined thousands of people at the funeral ceremony, marking his first public appearance in a considerable period of time.
