The Austrian government has decided to introduce new measures that will prevent individuals receiving unemployment benefits or emergency assistance from earning any additional income in the future.

The decision was part of a new program announced at the conclusion of intensive government meetings. However, exceptions will be made for elderly individuals and those who have been unemployed for an extended period.

According to the government program, unemployed individuals in Austria are currently allowed to earn supplementary income alongside their benefits from the Employment Service (AMS), with a cap on additional earnings set at €551.10 per month.

The Ministry of Economy, headed by Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer, clarified that unemployment benefits will be distributed in phases.

At present, unemployed individuals in Austria are receiving a record 55% of their last earned income as unemployment benefits.
