Austrian authorities announced on Monday the expulsion of three Russian diplomats, declaring them persona non grata, on charges of espionage and engaging in illegal activities incompatible with their diplomatic status.
Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger stated that the expulsion decision followed suspicions that the three diplomats were involved in espionage activities, confirming that they had already left Austria.
Reisinger added, "It is unacceptable to use diplomatic immunity to commit acts of espionage."
