The Austrian government has announced a nationwide ban on mobile phone use in schools, aiming to improve focus and social interaction among students.

Education Minister Christoph Wiederkehr stated that while schools previously set their own rules regarding phone usage, the new regulation will create a unified approach, making it easier for teachers and administrators to enforce.

Schools will still have the flexibility to determine specific exemptions based on their needs. The decision comes in response to concerns about the negative impact of excessive phone use on students' health and social behavior.

Officials believe that face-to-face communication should take priority over screen time, especially during school breaks.

The ban is also expected to affect parents, as many rely on mobile phones to stay in constant contact with their children during school hours.

The education minister emphasized that mobile phones can be highly distracting, making it necessary to implement this measure to enhance the learning environment.
