Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced, on Tuesday, that he tested positive for COVID-19.
Morrison noted that he was experiencing mild "flu-like symptoms", asserting that he would keep up his duties remotely while self-isolating.
He would still be focusing on the government's response to devastating floods in the state of Queensland, as well as Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The Prime Minister was one of the first Australians to get vaccinated last year, and has received two booster shots.
Cases across Australia have been increasing after the arrival of the omicron variant and the end of Australia's long "zero COVID" policy.
On February 21, Australia fully reopened its international borders, allowing vaccinated travelers into the country after nearly two years of coronavirus-linked restrictions.
“It is a very exciting day, one that I have been looking forward to for a long time, from the day that I first shut that border right at the start of the pandemic,” Morrison said.
Several families were reunited with their beloved ones after one of the strictest lockdowns in the world.
