World No.11 Serena Williams put on a brilliant performance to defeat second seed Simona Halep and set up an Australian Open semi-final with Naomi Osaka.

The 39-year-old American, looking forward to claiming her 24th Grand Slam title, won 6-3 6-3 against the Romanian.

Williams overcame a slight dip at the start of the second set, winning the final five games to clinch victory.

Following her victory, the American player wrote the history once again, as she just tied Roger Federer for most ever Grand Slam match wins with a 362 score.

Earlier on Tuesday, Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka qualified for the semi-finals of the ongoing Australian Open after smashing Taiwan’s Su-Wei Hsieh, who managed to end 2020 ranked world No.1 doubles.

The Japanese third seed, who won the second of her three Grand Slam titles at Melbourne Park in 2019, beat the Taiwanese 6-2 6-2.

“Every time I play her, it is always such a battle,” Osaka said, according to BBC.

Osaka has had a difficult draw but the 23-year-old has dropped just one set en route to the last four.

She maintained two match points to defeat two-time major winner Garbine Muguruza in the last 8 and looked refreshed against Hseih.
