On Friday, Australia's Defense Ministry announced that it will take command of a joint maritime task force in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden beginning in October.
This task force, known as Combined Task Force 153 (CTF 153), was established in April 2022 under the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) to enhance maritime security in the region.
In December 2022, the task force's mission was expanded to address the growing threat of Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, reflecting the increasing security challenges in the area.
Australia’s leadership role in CTF 153 underscores its commitment to ensuring safe and secure maritime operations in these strategically vital waters.
