US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and his Swedish counterpart, Peter Hultqvist, discussed Sweden's accession to NATO and support for Ukraine, as well as the crisis in the Middle East.
The US Department of Defense (DoD) said in a statement posted on its website on Saturday that the two ministers reaffirmed their commitment to Sweden's accession to NATO during their phone call. The statement also noted that the signing of a defense cooperation agreement between the United States and Sweden in December last year was also a decisive step to strengthen defense relations.
According to the statement, the two ministers affirmed their support for Ukraine and agreed on the importance of continuing bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
Austin and Johnson concluded the phone call by discussing the Houthis' illegal attacks on commercial ships.
