U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin expressed deep concern over reports that the Israeli occupation army targeted sites belonging to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), resulting in the death of two Lebanese soldiers.
According to a statement from the Pentagon, as reported by the American channel Al-Hurra, Austin emphasized during a phone call with his Israeli counterpart Yoav Gallant the importance of ensuring the safety and security of both UNIFIL and the Lebanese Armed Forces. He also stressed the need to shift from military operations in Lebanon to diplomatic efforts as soon as possible.
Earlier, UNIFIL announced that its soldiers had been injured after repeated Israeli shelling of its headquarters and nearby locations in southern Lebanon.
