The American University in Cairo (AUC) is hosting the fifth Cairo Media Conference, in collaboration with Oslo Metropolitan University, titled “Artificial Intelligence: The New Frontier for Journalism and Media.”
The conference, an annual gathering of industry professionals, academics and students to discuss the future of media, is held to discuss the opportunities offered by AI-powered technologies to the media industry and the challenges they could trigger.
It will serve as a forum to probe methods in which news and media organizations can use AI responsibly by fostering healthy debates about economic, ethical and editorial threats and implications in addition to discussion on misinformation, disinformation, deep fakes and other synthetic media.
The conference will include panel discussions featuring academics, journalists from local and international publications and media professionals from Egypt, Europe and Africa, from The American University in Cairo, Oslo Metropolitan University in Norway,The Association of Norwegian Editors, Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, The Journalism and Media International Center at OsloMet University in Norway, Al Masry Al Youm and more.
The discussions will focus on the early responses to AI in journalism and media, promoting responsible AI and promoting trustworthy, high-quality content and the role of AI in improving access to information in a digital world.
Keynote speeches will be given by Arne Jensen, senior advisor to the Association of Norwegian Editors and Linet Kwamboka, senior program manager at Data4Now, Kenya.
