The Ewart Hall at AUC Tahrir Square campus will initiate the activities of the "Shadi Abdel Salam World" exhibition tonight. The event will be held in cooperation with the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

The exhibition will last  from  December 22 to  January 12 and it will include a number of Abdel Salam tools and belongings such as his desk, sketches and rare books.

Celebrating the 30th anniversary of "The Mummy...The Night of Counting the Years" film's screening, a restored version of the film will be screened also tonight.

The film revolves around an Upper-Egyptian clan who robs a cache of mummies and sells the artifacts on the illicit antiquities black market.

After a conflict within the clan, one of its members goes to the police, helping the Antiquities Service find the cache.

The film starring Nadia Lutfi, Ahmed Marey, and Zozo Nabil. Also, it is considered one of the best features in the history of Egyptian cinema.

The visual impact the film leaves on the spectator is ever-lasting as Abdel Salam aimed at expressing the essence of things and sought artistic narration through image, architecture, light, and color rather than through dramatic action, literary narration, or linguistic dialogues.

Shadi Abdel Salam, who directed only one full-length feature movie, has become firmly established as one of the most important Egyptian directors and his reputation has transcended local borders to international fame.

The memory of this great artist is still engraved in the minds and hearts of his disciples who uphold the idol’s vision, adhere to his views, and are still trying to bring his deferred dream Akhenaton, the "Tragedy of the Great House" to light.

It was his profound and intense knowledge of the environment and civilization of different historical epochs that made him excel in designing the sets and costumes of historical films.

He worked not only on Egyptian films, like Oh Islam, Almaz, and Abdou el Hamouli, and Saladin but also designed the costumes and décor for foreign films.
