AUC Hosts IMF'S Presentation on World Economic Outlook

The School of Business at The American University in Cairo (AUC) and The International Monetary Fund (IMF) will display World Economic Outlook Presentation, titled "Global Manufacturing Downturn, Rising Trade Barriers" On Tuesday, October 29, 2019; 1:00 pm till 3:00 pm at Moataz Al Alfi Hall, AUC New Cairo.

The presentation will discuss the IMF's World Economic Outlook released on October 15.

It will cover forecasts for the global economy, including the main factors affecting global economic activity, the evolution of world trade, manufacturing activity, capital flows, as well as the estimated impact of increased trade tensions and rising trade barriers.

The event will also discuss the main risks around the baseline forecast and the main policy recommendations to forestall negative risks and raise actual and potential growth.

The event’s speaker will be Gian Maria Milesi-Ferretti, deputy director in the Research Department of the International Monetary Fund.

He supervises the department’s work on multilateral surveillance, including the World Economic Outlook, G-20 reports, spillover analysis, and economic modeling. He was previously a deputy director in the Western Hemisphere Department and IMF mission chief to the United States.

He received his undergraduate degree in economics from Universita di Roma La Sapienza in 1985 and his PhD from Harvard in 1991. He joined the London School of Economics thereafter, and moved to the IMF in 1993.
