The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has rejected any recognition of the Somaliland region, affirming a “strict commitment” to Somalia’s unity and sovereignty.
Earlier in the day, several countries and international organizations condemned Israel’s recognition of Somaliland as a sovereign state, expressing outright rejection of the move, which they said constitutes a violation of Somalia’s territorial unity and sovereignty and poses a threat to stability in the Horn of Africa.
