Ambassador Amr Aljowaily, Director of the Diaspora and Citizens' Organizations Directorate at the African Union Commission, delivered the closing remarks at the first Civil Society and Youth Forum, a side event to the 7th African Union-European Union Summit, whose preparatory meetings are currently being held in Luanda, Angola.

Aljowaily commended the forum for addressing pivotal topics of priority to both regions, including strengthening the shared EU-AU Vision 2030, youth entrepreneurship, enhancing cultural and people-to-people relations, peace and security, and multilateralism in addressing global challenges and issues.

The African Union Commission official emphasized that the convening of this first forum adds an important dimension to the African-European partnership, as it strengthens cooperation between societies and peoples, and highlights the priority that youth represent, given that the African continent is the youngest in the world and that young people represent the future of the partnership between the two regions.

Aljowaily emphasized the importance of leveraging the forum's work to advance African development priorities in multilateral forums, addressing global challenges that transcend geographical boundaries and require coordinated efforts among countries and regions. He added that the forum's key recommendations would be presented to the summit commencing tomorrow in Luanda.

It is worth noting that a joint African Union-European Union task force was established in 2023 to engage civil society and youth.

A virtual forum for civil society and youth organizations was held between the African Union and the European Union on May 20, 2025, on the sidelines of the joint African Union-European Union ministerial meeting held on May 21, 2025, in Brussels, Belgium.
